Norwich church reinvents itself for 21st century

EternityPaddyVenner4202011: A Norwich church has completed its reinvention as a 21st century expression of the body of Christ, complete with new branding, stage lights, plasma screens and a rock-style worship band.

Eternity Norwich, formerly known as Earlham Christian Centre, on the west side of the city, is bursting at the seams with not only new people, but with fresh vision and forward motion at it seeks to create a counter-culture to that which surrounds, by introducing Jesus Christ and His message of Faith, Hope and Love.

The pastors of Eternity, Paddy (pictured above) and Jennike Venner, together with their Visionary Team, felt the need for new life to be breathed into their church to draw in a new generation of believers to be welcomed by those already there.

EternityMassive300This involved a new name, and a total refurbishment of the main meeting hall to create a contemporary atmosphere that represents the ethos of the church as a 21st century expression of the body of Christ.

So in came the stage lights and plasma screens and, following that, more and more people seeking truth and a spiritual home. Morning meetings are now jam-packed with 200 people every Sunday, worshipping Jesus to the contemporary pop/rock style of the highly talented band and being impacted by teaching from the Bible that has the potential to change lives.

Paddy said: “We are not here to become a part of the surrounding culture, but to counter it and build a bigger, better, stronger one that points people to Jesus. The Bible says that we are not peripheral to the world, but that it is peripheral to us, and so we believe we are strategically placed geographically and spiritually to meet the needs of a community that needs to find Faith, be given Hope and encounter God’s Love.”

The Sunday morning meeting at Eternity Norwich, called Massive, starts at 10:30, and includes Sunday Club for children from ages 4 to 12. Eternity Norwich is also notorious for its high-energy Holiday Clubs which run in every School holiday and half-term and this past half term saw up to a hundred and eleven children per day hearing the truth about Jesus.

Eternity also has weekly children’s clubs a student group called Fuel, as well as small groups called LifeGroups and is currently gearing up for greater things with a new approach to its Sunday meetings.
