Singers wanted for musical at Lowestoft church

Roger Jones, composer and director with Christian Music Ministries, is looking for singers and musicians to take part in his musical-in-a-day production of Saints Alive! which will take place at Trinity Methodist church in Lowestoft.

Roger will be coming to Lowestoft on October 28, when he will lead the rehearsal and performance at Trinity Methodist church, Park Road, NR32 4HU. Rehearsals will be held in the run up to the day on July 15, August 5, September 9, September 30 and October 14 between 10.30 -12.30 at the Methodist church.

Jeanette Soanes, who is organising the event, encourages anyone who enjoys singing to come along and be involved. One rehearsal has already taken place, with about 45 people from approximately eight different churches showing up, but she is keen to welcome more. Singers of all backgrounds, ages and vocal parts can be involved, and although reading music is an advantage it isn’t essential. The monthly rehearsals of singers will be led by Jo Knight who will also be playing the piano, and will culminate on October 28 with Roger Jones joining them to produce a “musical-in-a-day”, which local instrumentalists as well as singers are invited to attend.

Saints Alive! is a musical telling the story of the birth of the Church on the day of Pentecost, showing the dramatic change which took place in the apostles, turning them from frightened and hopeless men to people who turned the world upside down.

Jeanette was motivated to bring the musical to Lowestoft after the success of another similar event in 2017, when Roger Jones brought his musical Barnabas to the church. Jeanette loved not only the musical aspect, but also comments that: “a good cross-section of churches came together, which was good in itself”.

Prospective singers don’t need to sign up, but can just turn up for rehearsals. There is no cost for singers, although they are encouraged to buy the book of sheet music for £8 at their first rehearsal, and Jeanette guarantees that anyone who takes part in Saints Alive! will “feel their souls uplifted”.
