Norwich church stages a keep cool tea party

If you want a way to keep cool in the summer, warm in the winter and enjoy a free cup of coffee or tea party, St George’s, Colegate, Norwich, is the place for you.

Assistant Curate, Rev Annie Blyth, said: “We run a weekly Community Coffee Morning. This started as a Hot Spot in winter then morphed into a Cool Spot in the summer. Like many other churches and communities, offer drinks and food and chat and friendship - a warm welcome to everybody and we love this community gathering.

“On the August Bank Holiday, recognising that Bank Holidays can be lonely for some, we had a tea party and had a wonderful time, and one of our visitors, Helen Arden, wrote a poem to celebrate:

St Georges Colegate is the place to be
for a fantastic afternoon tea.
Their coffee mornings are so much fun
and the wonderful vicar Annie welcomes everyone.
Everybody's so friendly and Alaric's a great guy,
you should pop in if you're passing by.
There is always so much tasty nosh
but don't worry it isn't too posh.
There's yummy cakes and sarnies too
and even homemade soup for you.
Lovely, warm people in a lovely place,
chat drink tea and fill their face.
What more could you want in the middle of the week?
A nicer time with nicer people you could never seek.
Helen Arden
