Norfolk p
rison leavers charity seeks new chairman

Norwich-based prison leavers charity Community Chaplaincy Norfolk (CCN) is looking to appoint a new Chair of Trustees.

CCNMentoringLogo750CCN is a registered charity providing trained volunteer mentors who support people leaving prison to live in Norfolk. Established in 2018, it employs three paid staff and 20+ volunteers to work with around 60 prison leavers per year.

Outgoing Chair of Trustees, Chris Tomlinson said: “I joined the Board of CCN five years ago when it was a small organisation trying to improve the opportunities for prison leavers.  I believed then, and I still do today, that everyone deserves a chance to reset our lives when things have gone wrong.”

CCN is looking for a chair who can lead the Board and work alongside the CCN Manager to steer strategic development of a growing Christian charity, championing impact and outcome driven practice and building and maintaining relationships with the wider community. CCN Trustees meet six times a year in Norwich for board meetings and hold an annual strategic planning day.

CCN Manager, Mel Wheeler, said: “We are seeking someone with a willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to the position and be committed to the organisation and its values.”

Applications are welcome from across society and CCN aims to have a diverse board, representative of the communities impacted by criminal justice and the challenges they face. Applicants who might require a waiver due to criminal convictions, are welcome to get in touch about that process and how CCN might help.  A training and induction package is available to ensure applicants are fully informed and feel supported and ready to make a difference.

For more information, an informal chat and an expression of interest form please contact Melanie Wheeler at manager@norfolkchaplaincy.org.uk or see www.norfolkchaplaincy.org.uk/become-a-trustee

CCN Board Member, Martin Edwards, said: “Having worked in the justice system for over 30 years. I feel I have a good knowledge of what works for offenders on release from prison. CCN fits that category wholly and therefore I am proud to be a trustee of CCN.”
